All About Me!

Hello visitors!!

My name is Lindsey and I am a career preschool teacher.  I have worked with children since the age of 11, when I started my own after-school babysitting business.  At the age of 16, I was hired as a part-time afternoon aide in an infant classroom, and I also worked with the older infants preparing them for the move into a toddler class.  After high school graduation, I became the lead teacher in the 2 year old room.  I spent the next 4 years working with 2 year olds, and the following 6 years working with pre-kindergarten students.  At the same time, I also held positions as Assistant Director and Director in both child care facilities and preschool facilities.

When I had my first child in 2009, I opened my own preschool, Seedlings Nursery School, a play-based in-home environment for children ages 18 months - 5 years.  Seedlings is still operating today.

In my many years working with children, I have come to place high value on free play and child-led activities.  At the same time, I have watched as play in all forms has been slowly removed from classrooms and replaced with rigor and rote academics.

This blog is a project based on my research regarding the importance of play in early childhood and the impact play deprivation has on young children.
